Daily Planner / Agendas
Students are provided with a daily planner called an Agenda to record there daily assignments and help with organization. We do use them every day. If work is not completed during school students will highlight these assignments and it is then considered homework. All homework needs to be turned in the following morning to receive full credit. Parent signatures are not required, but if their are frequently missed homework assignments then it may become a requirement for some students.
Take Home Folders
We provide students with a take-home folder for taking home homework, completed work and important school information. The folders are clearly marked, Return to School and Leave at Home. Folders should go home and be checked every night.
Homework
Every night your child is expected to read 20 minutes at home. A reading log will be used to document there minutes read and a parent signature. The log will be turned in Monday morning for the previous weeks reading. There will also be a Study Link math homework every night. This is to be completed the same day it is assigned and turned in the following morning. Any other assignments that are not completed during the day is homework and is expected to be turned in the following morning.
Absences
Please notify the school office if your child is going to be absent. If your child is absent for an extended time, assignments will be sent home with a sibling or can be picked up in the office for your child to work on at home.
Birthdays
If your child would like to celebrate his/her birthday with classmates, a light snack is suggested. Please let me know ahead of time if you are providing a class snack. If your child has a summer birthday, we can plan a special day during the school year for them to celebrate. I would prefer birthday snacks to occur during our snack time from 10:00 - 10:15.
Scholastic Book Clubs
Each month a book order catalog will be sent home for you to purchase books for your child to read. Each time you purchase a book we are awarded points so we can also purchase books for our classroom library. The months we have the Book Fair I will not do book orders to encourage students to purchase from the book fair to support the school. If you like to purchase online you can go to www.scholasticbookclub.org and our classroom code is KKXCQ.
Breakfast and Lunch
Every morning breakfast is provided for every student. There is a breakfast cart located in the 4th and 5th grade end of the building. Each child is to take a fruit or fruit juice, a grain and/or protein. Breakfast is then eaten in the classroom prior to specials. It is very important that each child eats breakfast to give them energy to get started for the day. We eat lunch every day at 12:40. Lunch will cost $2.00. Please put money into your child's lunch account. This will make the lunch procedure easier for your child. Just like a bank account, money will be deducted every time he/she eats lunch.
Water Bottles
Your child will be allowed to have a water bottle at his/her desk every day. We ask that the bottle has a closable lid and that water is the only drink in the bottle. No pop, juice, Kool-Aid or Gatorade.
Snack
Since we have the last lunch of the day we will have a scheduled snack time every day around 10:00. The students will be responsible for bringing in their own snack. A lot of students will keep a portion of their breakfast for snack. They are not to share with others or trade. We require that it is a healthy snack. No candy.
